Songs To Keep You Awake

(11)
Tuition given in the topic of Miss Loi the Tutor from the desk of Miss Loi at 7:58 pm (Singapore time)

UPDATE: After the heartless shutdown of Imeem by MySpace, DJ Loi has migrated her songs to her brand new playlist at Mixpod!

Sadly, Mixpod is gone as well 🙁 Miss Loi will just have to make do with random YouTube playlists for now 🙁

Head over now for more Ah Lian eurodance/techno goodness!

Each year as the day of reckoning draws near, Singapore’s ever-beautiful night skyline gets boosted by a couple of million candelas from the thousands of midnight oils blazing across the island.

Sleeping Millionaires

Even great men are not spared from the strikes of
Master Ninja Triple Zee

It’s in times like these that many are fighting a battle on another front – the battle with Master Ninja Triple Zee (ZZZ).

A top graduate from the greatest ninjitsu academy in Japan, this Grandmaster of Stealth strikes when you least expect and one surreptitious touch from him is enough to leave your most meticulously-planned study timetables in tatters.

How many times have you taken a bath, settled down, and told yourself to die die must finish studying this chapter tonight, only for Mom to chide “Why you never off the lights last night when you sleep?! Waste electricity!” the very next morning?

How many times have you encountered a difficult question, and had to close your eyes to ‘think’ and dwell on it for awhile, only for Mom to chide “Why you two nights in a row never off the lights when you sleep?! Waste my electricity again!” the next morning?

Nonetheless mortals like us fight back in a variety of ways. The Qing Dynasty has long since collapsed, so tying pigtails to ceiling beams doesn’t seem to be the fad these days. In its place, some modern anti-ZZZ measures include:

  • getting high on caffeine (but not all can be successful)
  • studying in groups (and ending up chatting the night away)
  • calling a friend (and ending up chatting the night away)
  • doing exercises like push-ups/sit-ups (and ending up more tired after that)
  • self-abusing acts like pinching oneself (do this too often and risk being mistaken for an emo nutcase)

Hence each of us has our own way of dealing with it.

As an ah lian in disguise, Miss Loi relies on her trusty collection of thumpin’ techno/eurodance songs to keep her in the waking world. Yes she does possess other collections in the form of 孙燕姿 albums and Korean drama soundtracks, but they have proven to be more successful at inviting ZZZ in rather than keeping him out.

So as a form of public service to all ah beng and ah lian like-minded students out there currently burning midnight oils for their O-Levels, Miss Loi has create an Imeem profile and uploaded some tracks there in the hope that they’ll help you in your battle with ZZZ the same way they’ve helped Miss Loi stay awake when she’s driving.

NEW! Now with MTVs!

Edit: Sadly, Mixpod is gone as well 🙁 Miss Loi will just have to make do with random YouTube playlists for now 🙁

Go on. Click on Miss Loi’s pretty face the iPhone above and tune in to DJ Loi’s Music Station *DJ Loi’s Music Station whenever you need to die die must finish studying this chapter tonight and turn your study place into a dancefloor!

More songs will be uploaded as the days go by. Even better, subscribe to the songs feed and be notified whenever a new song is uploaded! Requests and dedications are welcome!

Hmm … maybe some of our ministers should tune in as well?

*Please be responsible. Not every living thing in your neighbourhood needs to fight ZZZ! And please, please stop listening if you find it distracting to your studies. Try classical or jazz instead.

頑張って!!!

ByPasser, that's something new. Miss Loi take it that you meant 100% natural apple juice and not one of those fake syrup right? Would making drinks from apple juice concentrate be effective?

As for the exercises, if Miss Loi can even manage to yi si yi si do ONE push-up, it's time for bed immediately after that!

Wah...Miss Loi become Miss Lian ah?
U realli becoming bona fide lian liao

Anywayz...the tracks were catchy but super bengish and lianish for me

My own concoction includes low GI snacks (bananas, chicken sandwich using whole grain bread, etc), green tea, some healthier snacks like nuts (not fried!), and ROCK music (ok...dance music as well, key is to have variety)!

Thanks Jzin (and Bypasser again)! Hopefully students can drop by and see all the healthy options you've listed here, and avoid becoming caffeine addicts even before they begin joining the workforce!

Any more to add before Miss Lian goes to the supermarket?

I agree with Jzin, variety is the key. Too much of one kind, ur body get used to it, play around with different kind so that the body will keep constant adjustment.

Erm...i always go for the Peel Fresh kind..not so sure about the apple concentrated thingy.

Aiyo, in Jzin word's, get the blood flowing, so just do the women style push up lor...not like u are getting ready for Bejing...right? hehe
