Temple Banner, The Great War of 2007
(Please do not touch the exhibit)

At the break of dawn on a rainy Halloween’s eve, the last of Miss Loi’s charges made their final dash towards their Mathematical Salvation.

An eerie silence followed as the world held its breath, and the soft rustling breeze from The Temple‘s air-con could even be heard. No one knows what happened after that fateful charge, and their destinies shall not be revealed till months have passed.

Overwhelmed by the exertions of the past weeks, Miss Loi slumped back in her chair, as a sudden realization descended upon her. At long last, despite years of underconfidence, overconfidence, playfulness, laziness, stubborness etc etc., each and every one of her charges are now transformed into knightly champions of their own, staring at the gates to their Mathematical Nirvana.

The thought sent a solitary tear falling from her eye, further ruining the meticulous makeup on her glowing face.

Even as others brace themselves for the next wave of assualt from the Enemy’s mechanical siege engines, Miss Loi knows that her job is done for now.

As she proceeds to take down that stressful Countdown Timer from this blog and recall her beautician’s number for her long-overdue facial session, she is once again mindful of the group of bewildered *younglings at the side, staring with their tiny innocent eyes, unable to comprehend what has gone before.

New Syllabus Textbooks

A new year. A new syllabus.
More income for textbook publishers.

For this is not their war. And their time has yet to come, not for at least another year.

But their time WILL come, and this time it has been foretold that the Enemy shall assume a new form like nothing the human race has seen before.

So as Miss Loi is gearing up to receive a new generation of hope, starting this December 2007, she wondered about the kind of students the new year will bring her, the Temple‘s proposed new decor and most importantly, if her face has lost its radiance after such a long period since her last facial.

Happy Halloween and Goodbye.

*Those not taking their O-Levels this year.

On the contrary violence can be rather exemplary, as history has shown violence is needed to put a halt to world war two, thus violence is a necessity and an eventuality.

I beg to differ. History has shown to us that the Leage of Nations, as well as the United Nations can stop violence to a certain extent. The Policy of Appeasement strongly pursued by Neville Chamberlein, the policy of isolationism by America were ample testaments to show that violence is not a necessity! >:)

"league" nt "leage". The idea of collective security does show that violence is needed to a cetain extend that i agree with you. However even in the United Nations today still retains troops to counter threats, thus proving that violence is a necessity to counter issues such as terrorists. But do terrorist need to use violence in the first place? Lets ask ourselves, can terrorists truly sit down with us and have a talk and result in lasting peace? Can you TRUELY say violence is nt a necessity? Considering that history and contemporary has proven otherwise

haha..."truely" was a typo as much as "leage" was a typo...i guess.

Anyway, violence will alway lead to more violence, its the unavoidable truth in reality...sadly...such as violence was needed to stop another violence during WWII.

On a sidenote, in more backward country with lots of violence, some said with more education, there will be more peace and less violence. Funny, when some of the top scholar in the worlds are at the Pentagon...

P.S. Aiyah, if really no violence and peacefully around, where got need NS in SG.

ByPassing - Actually, there's almost an invasion back in 1998, and SAF was ALMOST activated to full combat-ready status, with live ammo and everything. Combat Air Patrols were doubled with full weapon loadouts for air and ground attacks (LIVE, working bombs and missiles).

Our benign dicta....errr... well, you know, big-boss back then (no names mentioned!), just didn't push the final panic button, and all the Guards and SIR units all over Singapore stood-down 72 hours after that.

You can almost hear the sigh of relief all over Singapore when "defcon level" was brought back down to "green". I can tell you, I couldn't believe it when the news came to us. "Live Ammo? Invasion? serious anot? Dun play lah, Singapore where got war one?"

So yeah, there IS a need for SAF, and NS definitely needs to be in place here.

er ya i do agree that an army is needed in sg to safeguard peace, i stress on the word "safeguard" such as the UN. Thus this further proves tat violence is always needed to stop violence hence a necessity no mater how coherently one argues, both history and contemporary events have proven it

    To all,

Miss Loi is absolutely amazed at how her innocent post on the end of O-Level maths exams can evolve into a discussion on violence/non-violence, triad chiefs, someone's spelling, the UN and now our SAF!

The power of the internet indeed.

Thanks for the info Peter, but what was the cause of the stand by? Care to share? The only recent one i know is when talks about water price and post 911 thingy, u like like oct12, nov13 etc...but not nothing like live ammo, bomb stuff involved.

P.S. Anyway, i wasnt being anti-NS in SG, just merely agreeing with kiroii on the violence thingy...World Peace.

Ok guess I'm abit late to add to this comment but just for the record for Bypassing -

Back in 1998, it wasn't Singapore that was being invaded. It was Singapore that was GOING TO INVADE the other guy. We were supposed to do a "pre-emptive strike" - hard, fast, and lethal. CAPs (Combat Air Patrols) were going to be converted into SEADs (Search And Destroy). KC-135s (tankers) were on the airfields ready to be launched.

All these, just to put "them" back into place and show them who's boss.

But as I said, the final orders weren't given, thank god.

As for what triggered it, it was the 1998 water talks plus railroad tiff.

Just for the record too - Singapore has the LARGEST combat Air Force in this region, bar none.

We’re like a “mini superpower” here actually, in terms of military power.
