While all of you (at least those of you who are not taking Bio on Monday) are out celebrating the end of your O Levels, I’m forced by my sister stuck at The Temple to finish up the solutions (along with the relevant explanations, where applicable) to the two combined science papers today 🙁

Why not D for qn 21? By boiling it at 100 degrees, you know this subtance is pure. Then, by doing the copper sulfate test, you know that this pure substance has water in it. And since the substance is PURE, it has to contain only water so its pure water!

For qn 21 can the answer be C...because pure water is neutral neither acidic nor alkaline. Although water freezes at 0 degrees...pure water being a neutral substance is'nt wrong either..could u check. Thanks..

I've updated the 5118 Chemistry/Biology solutions (version 1.1) to correct an error in Q38 which should be D, as highlighted by wei406015 and wei5000.

My bad for misreading the the question - we don't live in a planet with plants devouring herbivores! *looks at my garden with suspicion*

From the diagram for the answer to qn12, shouldn't incident rays from a distant object be (almost) parallel to the principal axis and that is why the refracted rays converge at the focal point at the other side of the lens?

Huh so is the answer for q1 B or D? The answer written there is D. But B implies that it only freezes at 0 deg which means that it is a pure substance cause it has only one melting point? Am I right?
